Course overview

As Decontamination Units and SSDs restart services in the post-COVID era, Trevor Garcia (Decontamination Consultant) looks at some of the issues, impacting on the selection of detergents and disinfectants for use in washer-disinfectors (WDs).

    • Gain awareness of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on SSD and sterilisation services. 

    • Gain an understanding of the relevant guidelines and advice for automated disinfection. 

    • Understand the appropriate considerations when selecting detergents and disinfectants for the instrument and medical device reprocessing. 

    • Be able to appreciate the importance of balancing quick and effective disinfection with good instrument, device and machine care. 

  • Course content

    Trainees will study one module and nine topic areas. The titles of some of those topics are: 

    • SSD in the COVID-19 era 

    • Contamination in reprocessing 

    • Disinfection against COVID-19 

    • Efficacy vs material compatibility 

    • Disinfection selection: Not all disinfectants are equal 

    • Selecting a detergent 

    • How to switch chemicals 

    Add members of your team to this course to save time and monitor progress. Each module is followed by a multiple-choice test to assess the understanding of the content. A personalised certificate is generated when all module tests have been completed.
